MY PODCAST PROCESS – FINDING THE RIGHT GUEST FOR YOUR PODCAST

written by Desmore April 23, 2019

Written by Desmore Samios, Host of The Desmore Chats With Podcast, Inspirational Speaker, New Media Trainer. www.desmoremedia.com

How do I find the right guests for my podcast? We talked about how a podcast episode begins with a thought and idea (previous blog post).

Before inviting a guest to your podcast show understand your message, your audience and your content. Think about a pilot flying the aircraft. You are the pilot, taking your audience on a magical journey, making sure they enjoy their flight. Your job, understanding your interview intention from start to finish. Think about your podcast episode as a captivating story filled with twists, turns, highs and lows. A story that conjures interest, whilst taking your listeners on the ride of their lives, they are hooked and interested in what you have to offer. Think about your podcast genre and how your guest will compliment your show.

What do you want your audience to take away from your podcast episode? Understand the atmosphere and mood you are creating for your listeners. Your content will become a representation of your podcast voice and story.

Your guests can bring incredible energy, wisdom and knowledge to your podcast platform. Their expertise can ignite and spark debate, start a conversation or become a thought-provoking piece of information to ponder.

In my experience it’s important to have a pre-interview chat with your guest. Often podcast hosts underestimate the importance of building a great relationship with their guest before their podcast recording. When you invest in building a relationship with your guest, making them feel welcome and comfortable, your guest will feel at home. Think about your guest as the missing puzzle piece to your interview puzzle, make sure your guests fit your podcast vision, intention and purpose. Value your podcast listeners, their time and their journey. They have chosen to listen to your podcast for a reason, and are interested in what you have to say.

Every single day the market welcomes new podcasters, you need to work out your point of difference and most importantly, be yourself, find your voice and celebrate your podcast storytelling abilities.
